Do cool things that matter

Written by Lisa Schlote

Today we have had the opportunity to provide an insight into Google which has been a very nice experience. Google is a company that has been established on September 15th 1995 by two very intelligent, young men called Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

Our guide this morning was Megan Danielson. She is the head of industry and travel at Google in Chicago and she really gave us a great presentation with lots of Google insights.

What I really liked about our excursion is the clear message that has been delivered: it is not possible to be the best when you start your business, but that you can get the best when you put all your heart, work and passion into your project. You really do have to believe in what you are doing.

At google it is not only about one person it is about every person involved with the business such as employees, users and service providers. It is impressive that almost every employee of Google loves his job. All of them are working on the same vision and mission and together they want to make the world a better place. At Google collaboration is a very important aspect as well as transparency.

Google says that their employees make them to what they are.

They focus on the skills of the employees not on the know how. Every week they have a meeting called TGIF , Thank God it’s Friday where every employee has the chance to speak up. Actually Google has an unusual organizational culture, which is designed to encourage loyalty and creativity. In my opinion that totally supports Googles mission because only satisfied employees will be fully comitted to the company and create satisfied users.

“Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

They want everyone to have the chance to get access to knowledge and information.

Reading the mission statement of Google I had to think about AirConnect and about if there exist any similarities between them. Google enables people to find information within seconds which makes life much easier. It can help in so many different situations and really makes the daily routine easier. AirConnect will never be able to simplify the daily routine regarding to answer questions within a machine by only a few seconds. But AirConnect will be able to help people getting connected and create new relationships. Google and AirConnect do have in common that they both take the personal information of users very serious. An other thing that we have learned today and to what AirConnect holds on is that Google also started one day in a garage with only a good idea and a mission that they are holding on till today. They told us not to be afraid of competition. Competition is healthy. We  have to face the competition  and due to the competition our team has to grow even more together and get stronger.

„Fail fast so you can fix it fast“ was one of my favourite sentences of todays excursion because it underlines  that no business is perfect and that there will always be problems no matter in which stage your company is at the moment. The learning for AirConnect is, that you can not run from your problems. You have to recognize them as soon as possible and then solve them.

I strongly believe that my team is able to do that and I hope that in 20 years AirConnect will be as successful as Google is in these days.
